How we work with Mumbai without visiting
Nobody from TrueOrbis travels to Mumbai, and we have no office there. Each engagement runs on video calls, phone and WhatsApp, with documents exchanged through a secure shared folder and any work on your systems done in remote sessions you can watch.
Proposals are signed electronically, so nothing needs couriering between cities. You stay the owner of every account we touch, and the OTPs that approve each step come to your own phone.
- Video calls for planning, filing sessions and training
- WhatsApp and phone for quick questions during working hours
- A secure folder for PAN, premises proof, product sheets and images
- Remote sessions you start and can stop at any moment
Maharashtra rules a Mumbai business should know
For GST, Maharashtra’s state code is 27, so every Mumbai GSTIN starts with those two digits. Mumbai spans the Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts, but the online application on the national GST portal is identical in both.
Shops, offices and other establishments come under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017, run by the Labour Department through the Office of the Labour Commissioner. A 2025 Ordinance raised the registration threshold from 10 to 20 workers: establishments with 20 or more register, and those with fewer send an intimation. Both are filed on the Labour Management System portal, lms.mahaonline.gov.in.
The portal’s user manual may still describe the older figure, and the Bill that replaces the Ordinance had passed the Legislative Assembly when we last checked. Confirm the current position with the Labour Commissioner’s office before you file.
Maharashtra levies professional tax under the Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1975, administered through mahagst.gov.in. Your accountant or payroll provider normally deals with it.
Projects that need several state approvals at once can use MAITRI, the Maharashtra single window for business approvals. Shops Act and professional tax filings are made by the business itself; we explain where they sit next to GST and Udyam, but do not file them.
If you sell online from Mumbai
If you run a D2C brand, a marketplace store or a trading house moving part of its sales online, the usual order is GST first, then the seller accounts, then listings. Getting one legal name and address consistent across PAN, GST and bank records saves most of the back-and-forth later.
From 1 November 2026, a new Rule 14B lets eligible e-commerce sellers register in another State using a marketplace warehouse address. If your stock sits in fulfilment centres outside Maharashtra, ask your accountant whether it fits your case before we prepare anything.
A typical Mumbai engagement, step by step
- An intro call at a time that suits you, to understand the business and what is holding it up
- A written scope and quote by email before any work begins
- Documents shared through the secure folder, checked by us, with gaps flagged
- Filing or build sessions on screen-share, with approvals made on your phone
- Handover of certificates, logins and notes, all held in your business’s name
Common questions
You are in Delhi — can you still handle our Mumbai GST registration?
Yes. GST registration is filed online on the national portal, so where the helper sits makes no difference. You keep the OTPs and sign-off; we prepare the documents, file with you and help answer any query the officer raises. If the officer orders a physical verification, it takes place at your premises with you.
Do we need a Shops and Establishments registration, or only an intimation?
Under the 2025 Ordinance, Mumbai establishments with 20 or more workers register and smaller ones send an intimation, both on the Labour Management System portal. The law is still being finalised, so check the Labour Commissioner’s current notice. The business files this itself.
Will anyone come to our office in Mumbai?
No. We make no visits outside Delhi NCR. Video calls, WhatsApp and remote sessions cover the work we do for Mumbai clients, and anything that needs hands on hardware is better done by someone local.
Can you sort out professional tax for our staff?
Not as a service. Maharashtra levies it under its 1975 Act, and it is usually handled by your accountant or payroll provider through mahagst.gov.in. We can point you there while setting up GST and Udyam.
