West Bengal rules to keep in view

A GSTIN for Kolkata premises carries West Bengal’s state code, 19. The application runs on the national GST portal like any other.

Shops and establishments are regulated by the West Bengal Shops & Establishments Act, 1963, administered by the Labour Commissionerate of the Labour Department. Registration and renewal are done online through Silpasathi, which offers real-time registration. Silpasathi is also West Bengal’s single window for other business approvals, so you may already have an account there. The central labour codes in force since 21 November 2025 add an establishment registration of their own; check which applies to you.

West Bengal levies professional tax under the West Bengal State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1979. The salary slabs were revised in 2026, so check the current schedule on the Directorate of Commercial Taxes site, comtax.wb.gov.in. The old wbprofessiontax.gov.in address no longer works.

Working together between Delhi and Kolkata

Steps that need your consent happen on your own devices: OTPs reach your phone, you sign in to Seller Central or Seller Hub yourself, and any agreement with us is signed electronically. Passwords and marketplace logins stay with you.

Before work begins you receive a written scope with fees. At the end you get the certificates, account details and short notes your team needs to carry on without us.

Common questions

Can a Kolkata seller use a marketplace warehouse in another state?

Since 1 November 2026, a new GST rule, Rule 14B, lets eligible e-commerce sellers register in another State using a marketplace warehouse address. Whether it suits you depends on your business and where your stock goes, so discuss it with your accountant first; we can then help with the application and listings.

Where do we register under the West Bengal Shops & Establishments Act?

On Silpasathi, the state’s online portal, which handles registration and renewal for the Labour Commissionerate. We do not file it for you, but we can walk through where it fits with your other registrations.

What professional tax applies to salaries in West Bengal now?

The state revised its salary slabs in 2026. Check the latest schedule on comtax.wb.gov.in before running payroll, because older tables still circulating online may be out of date.

Will we ever meet in person?
